I no longer publish a full bio for Reasons of Good Taste and Public Morals. But here's some pass notes:
Occupation:
Consulting nerd, usually found on the trading floor of an merchant bank, currently working for a specialist investment fund. This is less exciting than it sounds.
Nevertheless, it's more lucrative than common-or-garden geekery, and easier in the sense that I seldom do anything involving 'real programming' - pointers, recursion and curly braces. And much more difficult in the sense that I wear a tailored suit and a tie to work, which delays the moment at which people realise that I am very nerd-ish indeed: there are sound reasons for our natural coloration, one of which is the warning signal "here is someone with no social skills whatsoever".
Description:
"Body like two deckchairs copulating; mind like a crashed piano". The lamentable loss of my moustache means I no longer resemble Ned Flanders. But somehow, there is something relentlessly Flanderish about me.
On a more serious note, the "no social skills" canard is increasingly out-of-date, in part due to building a social life from scratch with the aid of LiveJournal. Still, there will always be something of the 'outsider' to me. If you're ill-at-ease around people like that, keep a little distance and don't let a mild unease or dislike turn into an irrational loathing. It happens, and I accept that it's neither wrong nor right - it's just human - but do try a little more self-awareness when you are around people less fortunate in their formative experiences than you.
If that sounds defensive, it is. But the most defensive thing of all is my affable and fluent conversation, which all too often acts as an impenetrable barrier. You really can learn nothing in an evening - or a day, or a year spent working with me - so go ahead and ask interesting questions. I guarantee that you'll get at least one interesting answer.
Hobbies:
Science Fiction, Origami, Ki-Aikido, living vicariously through other peoples' lives and friendships on the web. Hence, LiveJournal. I try to conceal my compulsive sketching and doodling from all but the closest of friends, as I am a very unflattering cartoonist with a cruel sense of humour. I enjoy running, and work out in the gym regularly, but I will always be blessed with the archetypal geek physique.

What's your name? Call me Nile: it's pretty close to my real name. One of my cousins called me that, years ago, and it kind of stuck.
Why is your Journal mostly about work and second-hand political commentary? Don't you have a social life? I lead a quiet life: quieter, perhaps, than I'd like but I'm definitely not the 'crowds' and 'party' person. I may expand a friends-only section to cover my life after dark but I have no immediate plans. Nevertheless, I wouldn't mind knowing more people in London.
Where were you educated? No, I am formally uneducated. I seem to get along with programming and finance because you can acquire them in fairly small chunks of knowledge, rather than two or three years of disciplined study. Nevertheless, I am making efforts to obtain a part-time MSc, as it's very difficult to get a job without credentials these days.
Don't I know you from somewhere? Yes, you probably do recognise the writing style. And no, I'm not telling you where you read it last: I periodically 'retire' online identities when: (a) I get bored with them; (b) the spam volume defeats even Yahoo's filters; (c) years of 'baggage' and past opinions build up and I look back thinking: 'I don't think that way nowadays'; (f) I say something really, really stupid and take a few months' sabbatical to let things cool down.
Hairy WHAT? Yes, I shave my ears. I have reached an age when hair appears wherever it can prevent the entry and egress of woodlice.
